Bahrain Economic Development Board

The Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB) is a dynamic public agency with an overall responsibility for formulating and overseeing the economic development strategy of Bahrain and for creating the right climate to attract direct investment into the Kingdom..

The Bahrain EDB’s inward investment strategy focuses on sectors in which Bahrain offers significant strengths, including financial services, downstream industries, tourism, business services, logistics and ICT.

The Bahrain EDB also helps companies interested in investing in Bahrain by acting as the first point of contact to the Kingdom, understanding the objectives of investors, providing them with information regarding the relevant procedures for setting up a business, and helping them form a network of contacts in Bahrain.

Bahrain EDB’s mission is to grow and diversify Bahrain’s economy by developing an economic growth strategy that supports the advancement of a modern and liberalised business environment, encourages inward investment and enables Bahrain to compete in the global marketplace.

These efforts will also be the catalyst to elevate national living standards by creating greater opportunities for Bahrainis.

1. Developing an economic growth strategy
Working closely with partners from across the public and private sector, the Bahrain EDB is developing an economic strategy focused on the immediate, medium and long-term future. The strategy is central to ensuring that the Kingdom’s government is in the best possible position to define the Kingdom’s future of economic reform.

2. Enhancing the business environment
The Bahrain EDB is working to ensure that Bahrain’s economy is competitive and effective now and into the future, creating the optimum business environment for Bahrain to attract investment from abroad as well as encouraging the development of Bahraini companies. Ongoing consultation with key public and private sector partners helps to identify ways in which the business environment can be enhanced, and encourage investment through improvements in specific sectors of real economic importance.

3. Promoting investment 
In order to attract leading global investors, the one of the Bahrain EDB’s key services is working to promote Bahrain’s many strengths across the world.

Delivering this Mission

The EDB is structured to deliver its objectives by focusing on four key areas of activity:

• Economic Strategy develops and syndicates an economic growth strategy for the Kingdom to create an environment that accurately reflects the aspirations of the nation.

• Public Sector Reform supports and monitors the implementation of key initiatives to improve the economic and business environment – and works with key stakeholders in the Government to ensure effective implementation.

• Business Development seeks to stimulate growth in key value-creating sectors of the economy, and seeks to attract inward investment in Bahrain from leading regional and international organisations.

• Global Marketing and Communications aims to ensure that all Bahrain stakeholders, both national and international, understand EDB’s vision for the future and the benefits of the investment opportunities in Bahrain.

The Bahrain EDB Business development team provides a free facilitation service for companies planning to establish or expand business operations in Bahrain.  Once a company has decided to invest in Bahrain, a dedicated officer is assigned to offer assistance through a cost-effective and streamlined registration process.  This support is tailored to the individual needs of each business to provide any necessary information and assistance from the EDB and its international network.

Services include: 

• Comprehensive information on potential investment opportunities in Bahrain, key business sectors and the Bahraini economy
• Tailored information and practical advice on the process of setting up a business in Bahrain – cross-ministerial teams to support the investment process
• Introductions to relevant contacts among Bahraini authorities, utility providers and professional service companies such as lawyers, accountants, relocation specialists and recruitment companies
• Arrange visit programmes with a customised schedule.
